For as many cool things that Google makes (come on, that PacMan home page? AWESOME.), someone really dropped the ball with Sites. This thing is so far beyond user friendly, I don't even know where to start. I really can't understand how you could possibly make a beautifully designed site with this, which makes me so infuriated because I need some sort of template thing in order to make a website myself. And I'd preferably do this for free.
First of all, the interface just looks old, like they designed it quickly 4 or 5 years ago and haven't come back to it yet. But that's just where my complaints start:
Images are either small, medium, large or their original size and are locked to right, center or left. And text can not go over images. And objects really don't play well with each other. It's kind of like trying to format something on Microsoft Word, but worse.
The background has to be the same on ever page. WHY?! Who knows.
Also, these stupid objects (pictures, slide shows, text...ok really anything) will shift depending on how large the window is. This is so frustrating. I'm sure it is something that could be fixed with the right code, but let me refer you to the second sentence of this entry.
I am complogging (complain blogging?) about this because it has been frustrating me for the past 5 hours I've been working on it, and it just might be a cry for someone to help me. I honestly don't need anything complicated (if you jump over there you'll see kind of how I want it to look. It's simple. It can't be that hard to code if you know code, right?)
Or if you know of a good free designer template thing that I can just copy the html and shove it down Google's throat, that'll work too.
Google's moto is "Don't be evil," right? Uhhh, Google? Gotta work on Sites. It's edging uncomfortably close to the gates of hell.
