Well this is Something Else!

Why hullo there! I figured it's time for another blog post (and have been harassed by some), and considering I actually have things to write about, heck why not?

I have a name for my studio! Something Else Studios will hit the internet sometime soonish, and will combine all things artistic for me, as well as be a company name, once I get around to getting a business license. I'll merge my two websites (currently ejmorrell.com which houses my fine art stuff; and this darling fledglingcomics.com blog/cartoon site) because I don't like being divided, and I don't see why I should be. And yes, I know there is already a Something Else Studio (singular), but she makes ren-fair costumes and stuff, so there's really no crossover. At all. So get over it. (That last sentence was for me.)

It took me a long time to think of something that was fun, witty, and a bit punny without being either demeaning to my skill set (most of my favorite ideas made me sound horrible - hence the reason I'm not sticking with Fledgling Studios...I don't want to sound like a n00b for the rest of my life) or build myself up too much (I'm Totally Awesome Studios? hmmm not so much). As much as I don't like being 100% original, I really love the name. The alliteration rolls nicely without being in-yo-face... and it lends itself to nice puns. :D

Why Something Else Studios? Well, that's a funny story: my dear brother Ben and I were chatting online regarding our web comic and the URL it will be at. And then inspiration hit. Here's the conversation:

me: i'm always a little leary when i see a comic called "X" at "somethingelse.com"
      (really? somethingelse.com doesn't exist?! I should snag that for a webcomic!)
[edit: somethingelse.com does kind of exist...someone is camping out on it. poop.]
      OH MY GOSH
      Something Else Studios
Ben: ... And the Heavens opened up and the light dids't come down and it was revealed to her on this the 29th of April. Let is be written, so shall it be.

It was exactly the way I pictured I'd come up with the name - not in a laborious brain storming session or forced like I had been trying. It just hit. It was love at first thought. But of course we continued to talk around that for the next 2 1/2 hours, coming up with other ideas that were maybe a bit more original, had an available URL, complained about why people camp on URL's and then sell them for thousands of dollars, etc etc etc... there was a lot of thesaurus-ing on my end...but eventually came back to Something Else. The URL is going to be really creative (I won't reveal it until it actually has a website, sorry) but all this to say: I'm really excited to have a centralized "studio" now.

I was going to make this a multiple pointed post, but those other blogs can wait. This is long enough.

I want a little mascot named Elsa, but I don't know what kind of funny animal it should be. Any ideas? Post it in the comments.
