To-Do and STOP COMPLAINING!

I’m not sure if this will be of interest to anyone but me, but considering in my first blog I stated this was a place for accountability for myself, you get to read my To Do list which seems to have taken on a snarky personality of it’s own. With illustrations. Brace yourself.

My To-Do list:

1. Keepdrawing. Finish that project by the end of this year! What good is a deadline if you keep it on life support?

2. Organize your closet. I’m pretty sure there are more clothes OUT of the closet than IN. This is not ideal in your 10x10 foot room.

3. Finish Anna and JP’s wedding painting. Seriously? They got married almost 3 months ago!

4. Be all OCD and make a spreadsheet for your finances.A better one, at least. Hey! I did this one!!

5. Finish altering your prom dress. It’s gonna be super cute. And I’m sure Mom would love for the sewing machine and fluffy mess to be out of the dining room.

6. Get a job in Bellingham. Lord knows you’re trying, so this isn’t exactly your fault.

7. Start the web comic. Well, re-start starting. And stop making excuses about not having a desk, blah blah blah. Just do it.

This leads me to...

Top Complaints That Keep Me from Making Things, of Which Most If Not All are Completely Not Valid:
1. My “studio” is an easel in the corner of my tiny room with a card table all on top of cardboard to keep from messing up the carpet. Yeah, this kinda sucks. But work with whatcha got, girlfriend.

2. I have no desk. So you get to sit in bed and draw? And we’re complaining....why?
3. My computer’s screen is small (15”) and I only have 1 monitor, so I can only do one thing at a time. That is probably a good thing. Fewer distractions.
4. My computer can’t handle Photoshop and another program being opened at the same time, so I can’t really watch or listen to anything while I work (on the same machine). You have an iPod. And a TV. Work around it.

5. My boyfriend lives an hour and a half away so weekends are either there or he’s here. This leaves me very little time to get stuff done on weekends.
Is it time to take a weekend for yourself?

But I don’t w

anna.

But you probably
should.

Crap.

6. I spend 11 hours a day away from the house and only get paid for 8 of them. So is life. Be grateful you have a job, woman!

7. I can’t stay up until 1am any more! Early bed times suck. …..*sigh

* Growing up are we?

As far as updates as to how the fight goes: I was in Bellingham all weekend and only touched my tablet a little bit. Friday night I drew for a few hours, and then about half an hour last night. I decided to re-do one of the pages completely, which is one part frustration, one part freeing. The thing about digital art that is so incredibly awesome is that you can just hide a layer and do it again. If it doesn’t turn out as you hoped, there’s no loss. Since my background is in painting - as in with acrylic paint - this is an entirely foreign concept to me. But I like it! It really makes me want to try over and over again until I get it just right.

Ok, I’m just going to come out with it, because I’m tired of dancing around it (and let’s see if Thomas is reading...). I’m making a comic book for my boyfriend, Thomas. That’s as far as I’ll go because I’m pretty sure he already guessed (his first guess was that I was going through all 12 hours of Lord of the Rings extended footage and replacing Frodo and Sam’s head
s with his and his best friend. Clever, but no.) (A

lso: Thomas is 6’2” and Clinton is 6’7”. Hobbits, they are not.)
So yes, I am writing and drawing a comic book. There are a lot of things I wasn’t expecting to think about. You kind of have to be a film director - knowing what angles work best to convey what you want, what pacing you need between panels, the placement of the word bubbles so it reads clearly and in order. But I’m loving it way more than I expected.
I am looking forward to it being done, though, so I can start on the web comic. Ben and I have some really fantastic ideas in the making.
